Professors aren’t angels

Professors are not angels

5 types of professors you will probably encounter in your online classes

All throughout my experience in my Online Classes, I have learned a lot about academics — that it should be managed wisely. And while this is true, there are so much things that we cannot control. However, one thing that excites me of being a student (an online student in this case) is the challenge of going through different instructors. Have you felt anxious and uncertain while attending the very first day of class not because you have enrolled your Calculus or History class, but actually because of the professor who will be in charged of these classes? You see, professor matters a lot! I always tell my friends that no matter how easy or hard the course is, it will always be a matter of how good your professor is in teaching.

So while my experience in online class helped me a lot, I made you a favor and did a list of professors’ archetypes that will help you prepare of what lies ahead:

1. The Live-up-to-his-profession type – usually, professors are professionals. They are really great in what they are doing especially that some of them have been teaching for a couple of decades. This kind of professor is a rare gem. They set the standards high but will not make you pay for it because they are good at teaching and they designed the class to help slow learners. They give ample time and easily-consumable materials for your perusal. They give reasonable examinations and major projects not solely for grades but for you to learn as well.

2. The Chill-Pill – you will finish the semester without knowing it. If you are lucky enough, the only requirement is to submit a couple of paper.

3. The Absentee – have you heard about an absentee student? Well, this time it is the other way around. An Absentee instructor gives more importance to other events in his life than the teaching. Yes, he assigns materials to read, arrange make-up classes, or if you are lucky enough, a substitute. But the point is, you paid for that class and you are entitled to received a quality service.

4. The Outlier – I like to call an outlier a people’s person because he is liked and sometimes celebrated by the class due to his excellence in staying grounded and knowing what and how the students really feel about the class. He often engage in class forums outside those weekly discussion boards. He applies what he knows about students’ sentiments and often sympathize with them. This kind of professor is an outlier because only 1 out of 10 professors resemble this quality.

5. The Tech-Tragedy – this professor just don’t know how to use the internet and optimize it to educate people.6. The Mr. Labor – the last thing you want to be with is a professor who throws the books and all the reading materials to you then asks you to do lengthy writing assignments, discussion boards, and an out-of-this-world examinations. Unfortunately, 7 out of 10 professors believes in this routine. They are just out of touch of our conditions (professional career, family, etc).

By this time, you must be holding back already from taking online classes. I hope that it is not the case.
